Abstract

This paper presents a solar energy harvester and energy management prototype developed for the UWASA Node wireless sensor platform. The prototype was designed using a modular approach, requiring only minor hardware modifications in order to allow harvesting from different energy sources. The primary sensor network application for which the design was developed is wind turbine monitoring. The energy harvesting prototype and the performance level it enables for the sensor networking are evaluated through experiments, and methods of optimizing energy harvesting and energy management are discussed.
