Abstract

The climate agenda is no longer perceived as informational noise. With declining demand for traditional energy resources and a booming renewable energy industry, climate change issues could have a major impact on changing the business models of major companies in hydrocarbon-producing countries. In the context of the energy transition, we are in a situation where the real figures and the pace at which global investment is “colored” green exceed all forecasts. Regulators who form strategic programs for the development of the economy are beginning to reconsider their priorities and create stimulating signals for the development of a "green" economy. Russia has every chance of becoming a significant player in the global market for new energy. In accordance with the current program of state support for the renewable energy industry in Russia, 1,730 MW of power capacities have already been built: 1,188 MW of solar power plants, 532 MW of wind power plants and 10 MW of small hydroelectric power plants. The rate of commissioning of new renewable energy facilities showed a two-fold increase in 2019, the forecast for 2020 is to maintain high rates of construction of renewable energy generation even in a pandemic. Already in 6 months of 2020, renewable energy facilities with a total capacity of 527 MW were successfully put into operation in the country. In total, more than 1,000 MW of renewable energy facilities are planned to be commissioned in 2020. Since the start of the program to stimulate investments in renewable energy generation in the wholesale market, the installed capacity of renewable energy sources has increased by more than 15 times.
