Abstract

Three different types of time are identified in the literature on Temporal Database Management Systems: valid time, transaction time and existence time. This paper describes the design of the valid time for Spatio-Temporal Databases in Geographic Information Systems, based on the UML-GeoFrame conceptual data model. It is also presented two translation rules of the valid time from the conceptual to logical level, implemented for the TerraLib Spatial Components Library.
