Abstract

This research contribution, investigates and analyse the operational characteristics of a voltage source converter (VSC), High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission system. The main objective of this research endeavor is to evaluate the implementation of a HVDC transmission system for integrating offshore wind energy with the grid. Dynamic model of the system is developed in the Simulink environment. Stability analysis has been performed through three case studies namely the two active grid interconnection, active and passive grid interconnection and the offshore wind farm interconnection with the grid. Results are analysed and compared according to E.ON grid code requirements for offshore grid connection.
