From Farm to Fork: Traceability based on RFID - A Proposal for Complete Traceability in the Wine Sector

Abstract

This paper highlights the objectives and activities of the European project “RFID from Farm to Fork”, which is focused on the food industry traceability. The final goal is to extend the traceability information to the final consumer, so these persons could feel the confidence on the food origin like our grandparents did when they lived in a less globalised World. The activities of the project in a winery at Ribeiro denomination of origin (Spain) at both vineyards (by means of wireless sensor networks) and the wine production process (by RFID technology) are also presented along the paper, in order to show some of the project outcomes.
