Abstract

Background: One of the most challenging cases in dental clinical esthetic problems is multiple diastema correction. In treating this interdental space, direct composite resin restoration is considered to be a practical and conservative treatment option. This case report describes multiple diastema management using direct composite resin without tooth preparation to achieve enhanced esthetics conservatively. Purpose: The purpose of this report is to explain the restorative protocol using direct composite resin for cases of multiple diastema. Case report: A 30-year-old male patient came to Ora Hospital of University of Airlangga, Department of Conservative Dentistry with the prime complaint of an unpleasant smile. During clinical examination, multiple diastema was found in the upper anterior teeth. Method: To wax up a study model, the dental smile design analysis was used as a guidance. Then, heavy body pvs impression material was used to make the palatal second index. After the shade choice, a rubber dam was used to isolate the treated teeth. The next step was to roughen the teeth surface with a diamond bur. An etching and bonding procedure was conducted and the palatal and proximal surface were filled with the palatal silicon index guidance. Filling was performed by layering the palatal, proximal, and labial surfaces. The finishing step was marking the embrasures and grooves, and then the teeth were polished to make them more esthetic. Conclusion: Direct composite resin restoration can treat the spaces’ esthetic problem of maxillary anterior teeth successfully.
