Abstract

Triglyceride level increases in elderly women. A long-standing association exists between elevated triglyceride levels and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Strategies to attenuate hypertriglyceridemia include increasing physical activity and nutrition education. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of line dancing on triglyceride level in elderly women. Eighteen elderly women were enrolled in the study. The subjects were allocated consecutively into two groups. Subjects in the intervention group were given line dancing and a diet leaflet and education while the control group were given a diet leaflet and education. Subjects were reevaluated after six weeks. A significant improvement in triglyceride level was achieved in the intervention group. The difference of two groups did not show a statistically significant improvement in triglyceride level. In conclusion, line dancing has a beneficial effect on elderly women to improve triglyceride level.
