Abstract

Abstract: It is required cContinuity of time is required in order to master swimming skills, particularly within a normal time span, which is once in every two days or once in every three days. It That is because if the time span is more greater than that, all the results of regular exercise would be easily forgotten from the memory, or it may might be difficult for them to be recorded in the long-term memory system. In relation to this problem, Schmidt (1991: 43, in Supriyanto, 2013) stated that in order o to master motion skill, it is required regular exercise is required as a processin order to transfer the exercise memory from Shortshort-Term term Memory memory (STM) phase to the Llong-Term term Memory memory (LTM), ). therefore the skill can be persistent, tThis process will runapplies when you learn to ride a bike and or learn to swim. The aim of this research is to explain the effect of acute exercise of breathing basic breathing motion on breathing skill retentionthe ability to hold one’s breath in swimming sport. This is a field experimental research using a randomized pre-test and post-test for one group only and was performed in Manyar Swimming Pool, Surabaya. The result showed that there was a significant correlation (p=0.000) between the variables of breathing skill and breath-holding time after treatmentacute exercise of (p <0.05) with p = 0,000. In conclusion, the acute exercise research provided skill retention for up to 1 hour after treatment . 24 hours after the treatment, there was a decrease in skill retention. Consequently, the result can be used as a guideline in providing repetition of the exercise to achieve the performance improvement.
