Abstract

Blood pressure is a parameter of a non-communicable disease. High blood pressure as risk factor for symptoms of blood pressure disorders were encountered between health officers of Tanjung Perak Port Surabaya, including urban lifestyles, heterogeneous workload and stress. Aim of this study is to analyze relationship between lifestyle, workload and work stress with blood pressure. This research used cross sectional design with 39 civil servants as participants. Lifestyle was measured by using questionnaires and recalled for 3 x 24 hours. The physical workload was measured using a calorimeter, while the mental workload and work stress was measured by using a questionnaire. Blood pressure was measured using a blood pressure cuff stethoscope meter gauge. The blood pressures of respondents were within normal parameters. Pearson's correlation test finds that age and mental workload have a significant association with systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels. The correlations of age and mental workload have shown a risk of high blood pressure. Respondents aged over 40 years old have a greater risk of high blood pressure. Job demands that have moderate to severe mental workload pose a greater risk of developing high blood pressure. Therefore, periodic health monitoring for workers at risk should be considered.
