Abstract

Many organizations face frequent, ongoing challenges as they attempt to integrate software applications into their business processes, particularly as enterprises continuously evolve, resulting in shifting requirements for these applications. The hiBPM framework supports modelling multiple interconnected processes involved in the integration of software applications into enterprise business processes so that alternative process-level configurations are compared and analysed. To support the evolving design capabilities and flexibilities of process execution, we elaborate on “Design-Use” and “Plan-Execute” relationships between processes. Design-Use relationships represent the exchange of a tool, capability or artifact that can be used repeatedly by other enterprise business processes for attaining some process or enterprise objectives. Plan-Execute relationships represent the exchange of information than enables process activities execution to accomplish enterprise objectives while simultaneously reducing the space of possible process execution possibilities. We applied the hiBPM framework at a large retail organization to illustrate how the organization could better integrate data analytics applications into their existing business and IT processes.
