Abstract

We describe an application that combines velocity data from a Windprofiler radar and a NEXRADII Doppler radar to compute 3D optical flow of moving severe weather. Windprofiler data improves the recovery of the velocity component in the upwards direction in the optical flow, where Windprofiler data is believed to be more accurate. We demonstrate this quantitatively using synthetic radar data and qualitatively using real radar data from Detroit NCDC Doppler and Harrow Windprofiler radars.
