Abstract: The NEXt generation Emergency Services (NEXES) Action demonstrates the integration of Internet-based information and communication technologies and interoperability solutions into European emergency services, so that they attain improved effectiveness and performance to the benefit of a safer society. Funded by the European Commission, NEXES augments the number of communication channels for citizens to reach emergency services - make a voice call, use real-time text messages or establish a video conference using smartphones, tablets or web-browsers via WiFi or 4G mobile networks - and supports the exchange of relevant emergency data, including improved location, language preference and medical information. With a pan-European approach, NEXES addresses roaming scenarios, public alerting and services' interoperability, reinforcing the transparency of the emergency service. As NEXES unveils new dimensions for next generation emergency services, it stands as the key driver for the transf ormation of emergency services across Europe. (More)
