Abstract:
The recycling program or activity is actually simple. It can be conducted by anyone, anywhere, and anytime. It does not need a lot of cost. It also affirms that persons with physical disabilities have equal opportunity and chance with society in general to conduct activities of 3R (Reuse, Reduce and Recycle). Nevertheless, the 3R is simple, but it can provide a significant impact for handling trash around us as common problem. With the truly efforts, persons with physical disabilities can be empowered and independent, so that they can improve their welfare. The major constrain to recycle trash, especially for persons with disabilities of ex-leprosy patients, is product marketing. This study aims to find out the marketing strategy of trash recycling products of persons with physical disabilities of ex-leprosy sufferers in Makassar city. This study used a qualitative approach. The key informants were a person with disabilities of ex-leprosy sufferers, Head of Social department, Head of
Regional Technical Implementation Unit of Trash Recycling, and Head of Hygiene and Gardening Department in Makassar city. The data were obtained by interview, survey, observation and understanding of document such as pictures and photos. The result of the research showed that the coordination among Social Department, Life Environmental Department, Gardening and Hygiene Department, and Regional Technical Implementation Unit of Trash Recycling was only involved activity in founding and giving of training for persons with physical disabilities. It was not intended to improve the trash recycling business marketing. Besides, there was practice of product labeling. Generally, the government's attention toward marketing of trash recycling products has not been good.
