Abstract: Schizophrenia can decrease the patients’ ability in doing daily activities which make them have less motivation and responsibility. Some of them never do any productive activities at home but they still need to get income for their daily living. The purpose of this research is to find out schizophrenic patients’ ability to do productive activities. This research was a descriptive study. Total sampling method was applied to 58 schizophrenic patients in Denpasar. The data were collected through observation sheet on their daily activities by visiting the house of schizophrenic patients. The data was analysed using univariate analysis. Most of schizophrenic patients (52%) showed good ability, 38% showed moderate ability and only 10% showed poor ability. The results of the research were gained due to the effect of rehabilitation program which was conducted before they were discharged from mental hospital (RSJ). Patients with good ability could give idea to their family and community, such as giving support and motivation. Productive activities could decrease patients’ burden, produce income and improve their quality of life. The role of family in increasing patients’ productivity could be achieved by getting information through participating in the family psychoeducation program. (More)
