Abstract: The paper describes the use of doctor-patient interaction in order to design a spoken dialogue system. In this paper we analyze doctor and patient information seeking and information provision behavior. In our experiments we found a difference in information seeking and information provisioning behavior of doctors and patients, although statistically not significant. We identify some important roles that can be used as a springboard to design a spoken dialogue system. Finally, we conclude that analyzing face-to-face doctorpatient interaction can serve as an effective starting point to design spoken medical dialogues.
