Abstract:
Research has shown that AUIs can improve the usability of software systems. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are an example of complex software systems which suffer from several usability issues. Limited research has been published on the applicability of AUIs to the domain of ERP systems. This paper aims to address this limitation by discussing the design of AUIs for ERP systems. A secondary contribution of this paper is the proposal of an adaptive taxonomy for ERP systems. Application of the proposed taxonomy and the proposed design is demonstrated through the implementation of an AUI for an existing ERP system, namely SAP Business One (SBO). The AUI was designed to address several of the usability issues identified in SBO, specifically efficiency and learnability.
