Abstract:
There are multiple approaches to organize and formalize the knowledge related to nuclear accidents, emergency situations and management of hazards. However, in general, the materials available for educational and awareness purposes are not directly linked to an organized knowledge base. This paper shows our studies on representing and using the experts’ knowledge on radiological and nuclear risks, with the purpose of making it more accessible to junior students and to other interested stakeholders. This effort resulted in an ontology of nuclear vulnerabilities, a set of rules, and processes for prevention, protection and emergency response, useful for understanding the decisions made by responsible institutions. These representations were applied in the development of a platform for informal education and awareness.
