Abstract:
This paper addresses the design and simulation of a control system for a solar powered train. An intelligent control approach using Petri nets is followed aiming at managing the energy consumption such that the train always reaches its destination. The system uses a priori information on the topology of the line, including length and slopes, locations of the intermediate stations, and also on the dynamics of the train, current solar irradiance and weather forecasting, and passenger weight, to determine bounds on the train velocity profile. The whole system was simulated integrating Petri nets in a Matlab/Simulink environment.
