Abstract:
The architectural frameworks that support the development of advanced telecommunications services have a generic and abstract character and do not specify with accuracy the proposed activities and the order of the steps that are necessary for their successful realisation. For this reason, this paper proposes an incremental and iterative service creation methodology, argues about its usefulness, outlines its basic characteristics and focuses on the necessity to complement it with a suitable Service Creation Environment (SCE). Therefore, the paper attempts to define SCEs, identifies their main characteristics, examines important related approaches in a critical manner and reasons about the relation of the SCE with the proposed service development methodology, highlighting the role and purpose that it should have.
