Abstract: Enterprise Information Portals have become crucial components in contemporary organisations, and universities and other higher education institutions are not exempt. While there are many studies concerning the adoption, implementation and utilisation of EIPs in organisations, there are few studies that touch this issue in the academic environment. The aim of this paper is to report findings on the challenges associated with the adoption of campus portals. This study adopts a comparative qualitative research approach based on multiple case studies in Saudi and UK universities. A research methodology was designed to conduct the research and to collect data through semi-structured interviews and documentation, and then analysed using various qualitative data analysis techniques such as coding and categorising, cross-interview analysis and document analysis. The findings show that there are many barriers and challenges that may arise as a result of campus portals adoption including: organ isational, technical, users, innovation, and financial related challenges. To overcome such challenges, we argue that a strong business case must be established from the outset of the project to drive the portal agendas and to address all aspects related to the project. Finally, the paper proposes a model and concludes with the main findings and provides some recommendations. (More)
