Abstract:
From a fundus image, the system proposed in this paper automatically detects retinal vessels and measures some geometrical properties on them such as caliber and bifurcation angles. Its goal is to establish objective relations between different vessels, thus being able to determine cardiovascular risk or other diseases, as well as to monitor their progression and response to different treatments. The proposed approach is mainly based on mathematical morphology although also incorporates curvature evaluation for the detection of retinal vascular tree. This method has been validated on a public database improving the results of previous published methods.
