behaviour in extreme wind conditions.
Furthermore, in waveform regions where
fluctuations cannot be avoided, due to the extreme
wind’s nature, the proposed controller ensures an
acceptable performance and convergence to the set
point.
6 CONCLUSIONS
In this paper, a design approach for the control of a
variable speed wind turbine system is proposed. The
extracted power has to achieve a desirable set point
of 2MW, despite wind speed fluctuations. By
appropriately adjusting the PID controller gains, the
proposed control scheme ensures the closed-loop
system’s stability and an acceptable tracking, even
under extreme wind conditions. The output
convergence to the set point has been shown to be
faster and tighter, as compared with existing PID
methods. Different control schemes for the variable
speed wind machine are presently under
investigation.
