Estimating Time Requirements for Web Input Elements

Abstract

How do you know whether a website or Web application is usable? What you need is statistics about how the website is used. Such statistics usually include information about how much time a web user spends on a website. But to know whether those dwell times are acceptable you will need reference values. This paper provides such reference values based on a research study. After a detailed discussion of the study’s results, a table is presented, which provides reference values for any kind of HTML/HTML5 input elements. This table can be used to estimate the time it will take a user to fill in a form.
