Abstract
The present paper considers weighted clustering algorithms for mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) and wireless sensor networks (WSN). First, we summarize the similarities and differences between the two types of networks as then examine the existing weighted clustering algorithms proposed so far. We specifically examine the objective functions and performances of the algorithm in terms of various parameters. In addition, we proposed a new algorithm called as the Life Time Sensitive Weighted Clustering Algorithm (LTS-WCA), which aims to adapt the already existing weighted clustering algorithm (WCA) proposed for MANET to WSN and modify and enhance it. WCA was proposed in the literature for forming cluster-heads in mobile ad hoc networks but we have demonstrated that it can also be effective when used in a wireless sensor network domain.
