Abstract
The alignment of occluded images constitutes a common and difficult problem. In this paper we propose a new method based on ECC algorithm tailored to occluded image alignment problem which enjoy a simple closed-form solution with low computational cost. Moreover, the use of a proper subset of the region of interest that limits the impact of the outliers in the estimation of the parameters is proposed. The use of this set seems to make the proposed method insensitive to the use of the occluded image as template or as warped in the alignment process. The proposed method is compared against two well known Gradient Corellation based methods by its application in several image alignment problems and in all cases outperforms its rivals in terms of accuracy and percentage of convergence.
