Beautifying Anterior Teeth with Vital Bleaching and Ceramic Veneers: A Case Report

Abstract

Background: This case report describes the ceramic laminate veneer treatment of an adult patient, who presented with discoloration of a previous restoration. An understanding about smile design principles as they relate to color, size, texture, proper proportion and balancing between teeth and other facial elements is essential to solve esthetic challenges. Aim: This case report aims to describe an esthetic rehabilitation with all-ceramic veneers of a patient who was unsatisfied with his smile. Case: A 35-year-old man came to the Department of Conservative Dentistry, Airlangga University with chief complaints about his unesthetic discolored anterior teeth. The patient had a history of orthodontic treatment and direct composite laminate veneer. The patient presented with dark discoloration of his upper anterior teeth which were restored with laminated composite veneers a few years ago. Case Management: The final treatment plans which had already been discussed with the patient were vital bleaching and six ceramic veneers of the maxillary anterior teeth, because the previous restoration resulted in discoloration. Vital bleaching treatment was performed before the ceramic laminate veneer procedure. A diagnostic wax-up was made for suitability assessment of the veneer restorations and the procedure for preparation of the teeth was explained to him in full. Before restoring the upper frontal teeth, a mock-up was conducted to verify the patient's satisfaction. Discussion: The resolution of esthetic issues, patient satisfaction, and integration of indirect restorations confirmed the success of this anterior dentition rehabilitation.
