Abstract
The aims of this research is to see the effect of problem-based learning (PBL) model toward critical thinking skills of high school students based on their level of critical thinking disposition. The design of this research is non-equivalent post-test only control group in a population of 57 students at level XI. The students are divided into two classes based on the similarity of the initial test result; one class was chosen as sample which is taught by PBL and one other class by eexpository model. Critical thinking disposition data was collected through a modified California critical thinking disposition inventory (CCTDI) questionnaire, while critical thinking skills data were collected through post-test questions and observation instruments. The data collected was analysed using ancova test and the result shows the influence of PBL against critical thinking skills in students who have different level of critical thinking disposition. Further note that students with high disposition of critical thinking in the PBL class have critical thinking skills higher than students in eexpository class. Chi-square analysis showed that PBL class produce higher critical thinking activities compared to the eexpository classes, mainly on the activity of giving arguments.
