Abstract
The press as a social control institution or as a watchdog should be given adequate space for social control or criticism of corruption, collusion, nepotism, and other irregularities that occur by the regime in power. Preview results of previous research found that although the topic of corruption has a fascination for the media, but rarely found research that reveals the discourse of corruption in the mass media. This study aims to disclose the relationship between text, ideology and socio-cultural discourse on corruption found in the Kompas newspaper through the framework of critical discourse analysis Norman Fairclough. The object of this study is the reporting of the right of questionnaire of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) versus House of Representatives (DPR). Data collection was done by news documentation method in Kompas newspaper during April-July 2017 which discussed about KPK versus DPR. The result of the research shows that (1) Kompas shows its alignment to KPK by raising the dispute of KPK dispute with DPR in a successive week; (2) The Compass's alignment with the KPK mostly uses the practice of using the language of curiosity to construct that the DPR is a state institution supporting corruption; (3) Kompas is able to construct discourses about the credibility of DPR members as corrupt and impartial personalities. In addition, it can be concluded from this research that Kompas seeks to preserve the function of the press as a government control institution.
