Abstract
Carok is one of the cultures in Madura. The phenomenon of Carok for Madurese is one of the efforts to resolve the dispute, and one of the causes is women. The high position of women in Madura causes Madurese men willingly do Carok. Women are a symbol of self-esteem for the Madurese. This study aims to find out how the tradition of Carok and what impact Carok against the harmony of society in Madura. This paper uses literature research methods. The study also describes the carok as part of the Madurese culture, understanding what causes Carok, the role of women in Carok, and how people respond to post Carok. In short, the authors can relate this Carok tradition with the use of relational dialectical theory (Leslie Baxter and Barbara Montgomery) which suggest that connected life is characterized by the ongoing tension between contradictory impulses. The results of this study are that Carok is considered able to recover or restore Madura's self-esteem. Usually, "Carok" is the last resort taken by the Madurese in solving the problem. And about the defense of a woman's self-esteem, Madurese man is firmly held firm. because of a woman, Madurese man becomes more excited, and from women can also lead to murder. For some, Carok is believed to be a tradition that helps people regain their self-esteem, and the most powerful, though temporary, the option of conflict resolution.
