Abstract
The presence of social media platforms that serve as a virtual public space becomes counterproductive when dominated by radical groups, spreading radicalism and terrorist ideologies. Social media, which connects each individual globally, has transformed into global terrorist networking activities, conducing terrorism in various countries, ranging from recruitment to training in preparation to launch such acts of terror. This article attempts to explain how social media as a public space is abused for the dissemination of radicalism and terrorism ideologies in a public space, threatening the democratic process and public well-being. In this article, the method applied was descriptive-qualitative, collecting data from the mass media to then be analyzed. In the end, this paper concluded that mass media had been widely abused as a means for the global terrorist network to engage in radical and terror activities. Through social media, the acts of terrorism succeeded in recruiting citizens from within the country up including in remote areas; persuading even senior citizens and young people to conduct acts of terrorism on their own country, and of course, this threatens democracy and people’s well-being.
