Abstract
Hypertrophic Scarring is the result of a disrupted healing process in burn injuries. There is no an exact general description and assessment with the Vancouver Scar Scale based on the hypertrophic scars at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the general description of hypertrophic scar patients due to burn injuries that have been scored using the Vancouver Scar Scale at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya. Observational descriptive research had been performed on all patients with a hypertrophic scar after burns who visited the Plastic Surgery Department of Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya from August to November 2017. Hypertrophic scars in patients who had a VSS > 7 was observed in male patients aged 18-40 years who lived outside Surabaya. Most of them were due to burn injuries caused by scalding and the most common anatomical location was the upper extremities with Fitzpatrick type skin color 4. The Fitzpatrick skin type found in this study was Fitzpatrick skin type 4 for nine people (69%) and Fitzpatrick skin type 5 for as many as four people (31%)
