Abstract
Food plays an important role in child growth. Lack of nutritious food will cause growth retardation. Growth retardation or long-term malnutrition can affect growth, immune system disorders, and risk of infectious diseases that can increase child morbidity and mortality. Growth retardation or malnutrition is caused by low birth weight, parental knowledge, socioeconomic status, environment, parenting patterns, and the duration of exclusive breastfeeding. To overcome the growth retardation is by providing extra food to catch up the nutritional needs by giving the WHO Formula 75 (F75) dose and behavioural changes with Positive Deviance (PD). The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of F75 and PD on the weight increase of under-five children weight with malnutrition. This was a pre-test – post-test quasi-experimental research design. The population was a total of 40 children under five with malnutrition assigned by using the total sampling technique. The data was analyzed by using the independent t-test. The result showed that p =0 .78, with significance level α = 0.05. Therefore p> α thus H1 was rejected Ho was accepted. There was no difference in averages between the group given F75 and the one given the combination of F75 and PD.
