Abstract

Leptospirosis is an infectious disease caused by a bacteria called Leptospira. It is transmitted directly or indirectly from an animal to a human, so this disease is categorized as a zoonosis. A case was found in Indonesia in April 2013, then again during mid-2014 in Kabupaten Sampang Madura. This research aims to analyze the influence of contaminated water, home sanitation and health behaviors on Leptospirosis in the society in Kabupaten Sampang. Data was collected from laboratory examinations of mouse samples and puddles, as well as interviews and observations. This research used an analytical observational case control design. Samples were taken from case area 7 and control area 21 (1:3), where they each used 10 inhabitants. Data was analyzed using a logistic regression test. Significant variables were the water contamination and positive Leptospira mouse (OR=15,00; p=0,022), flood track record (OR=2,45; p=0,002), used protector in working habit (OR=2,78; p=0,004), working place (OR=16,24; p=0,042). A dominant factor that influenced leptospirosis was the flood track record (OR=2, 69; p=0,001). A regional characteristic based on the flood records is a dominant factor influencing a leptospirosis case in Kabupaten Sampang. By minimalizing flood efforts, an environmental health program will be able to reduce leptospirosis cases there
