The Role of Self Esteem in Predicting Academic Resilience in Students of Private Universities with Accreditation A in Jakarta

Abstract

The research explored the role of self esteem in predicting academic resilience among student’s private universities with accreditation A in Jakarta. Self esteem is a personal assessment of appreciation, while academic resilience is the ability to reverse failure in academic and achieve success. The research applied quantitative method and predictive correlational research design involving 280 participants having age range 18-25 years. Self esteem was measured using Adult Version of The Coopersmith Self Esteem Inventory by Ryden. Academic resilience was measured using The Academic Resilience Scale-30 by Cassidy which has been modified. Using simple linear regression analysis, it was shown that self esteem played a role in predicting academic resilience 12,6 %. Suggestions from this study are providing appropriate treatment for students who have low self esteem scores.
