Abstract
This study aims to discern the influence of female directors on firm performance. Data used for this research was derived from firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2014-2015. The results show that 26 firms (5.9% of firms observed) appointed a woman as CEO. The findings show that a female CEO is negatively associated with firm performance. However, the result is insignificant. Nevertheless, the results in the subsample show interesting findings. Having a female CEO has a negative but significant association with firm performance in firms of a small size. In contrast, there is no evidence for this relationship in the subsample of larger firms.
