Abstract
We present experimental results to characterize the naturally grown silver nanoparticle ensemble as SERS sensor surface. Ag nanoparticle ensembles with different plasmon resonance wavelengths were characterized with respect to the morphology of silver nanoparticles. The best Raman enhancement of a Ag spheroid nanoparticle in SERS substrate is expected to be obtained at a plasmon resonance position between excitation wavelength and Raman scattering wavelength. A SERS sensor requires a certain response time to react the PAH concentration change in water. SERS measurement also revealed that the oxide layer was formed on Ag nanoparticle surface by the exposure to excitation laser light, which is a main reason to decrease SERS intensity within a certain time after the exposure to laser light and afterwards remain unaltered.
