Politeness Markers in the Interaction between Students and Lecturers

Abstract
This study aims to describe and explain politeness markers that are filled by the utterances of the student requesting their lecturers at Dharma Andalas University. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data is collected from the requesting made by the students and the lecturers. Based on the results of data analysis, the data shows that politeness that is often fulfilled by student utterance is the use of permissible words. The use of its words may be used as much as 40 percent in the utterances of the student requesting to the lecturers. In addition, the use of greeting words, the use of if, the use of let me and let's also be used by students in their utterances to the lecturer about 13 percent. Only one data shows the using of the word of help and the use of apology in the students requesting the lecturer.
