Multi Agent Protocol for Cooperative Intersection Collision Avoidance System

Abstract
One of the safety devices embedded in autonomous vehicles is the Intersection Collision Avoidance System (ICAS). In connected vehicle environment, ICAS can be developed into cooperative ICAS (CICAS), namely ICAS which has the ability to cooperate with other vehicles. CICAS can be realized using V2V communication, among others, with Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment (WAVE) technology. Data exchange between vehicles equipped with CICAS is governed by a special protocol. This paper presents the multi agent protocol for the purposes of the CICAS that are designed with the WAVE architecture environment. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed protocol can improve the safety index of CICAS, length of intersection passing time, and total time for data exchange.
