Abstract
This study examines environmental health. Environmental health determines human health in it. The main element in environmental health is waste management so that all types of diseases are sourced from the waste can be avoided because a healthy environment also has implications for realizing a healthy society. Realizing that it is important to maintain the environmental health of the MUI as a religious institution has issued a fatwa concerning environmental health regarding waste management to prevent environmental damage. This study uses a qualitative approach by analyzing the contents of the MUI fatwa from the political perspective of Indonesian Islamic law. This research found that the existence of the MUI fatwa as a legal opinion was not binding because it was recommended, and the position of the MUI fatwa as a legal product only became a tool of legitimacy towards the previous government policy on environmental management.
