Abstract
Small and Medium Enterprises, like most companies, have become highly dependent on digital technology for running their business. Such companies are also increasingly targeted by cyberattacks while their level of protection, capability of reaction and recovery are low. The initial step to take them along the path of increasing their level of cybersecurity and resilience is to raise awareness. Achieving this step successfully is not an easy task and requires dealing mainly with human factors. This paper surveys a number of approaches and reports about our own experience with an cybersecurity awareness program targeting Belgian SMEs. Based on this, we propose some lessons learned and guidelines.
