A Need Analysis of I-Mol Language Learning Model for Speaking Skills of Children with Special Needs

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the need for an Indonesian language teaching model for Extraordinary School that needs to be developed. The data in this article was collected through a closed questionnaire distribution to 12 teachers who taught at the Dian Kahuripan Extraordinary School at Elementary School level. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with the process of collecting data through observation for approximately 1 month, interviews to two teachers, and questionnaires. Through this study, it was found that the Indonesian language teaching model used at the Dian Kahuripan Extraordinary School at the elementary school level still has a simple teaching model that was naturally general. Hence there are still limitations and insufficiency to meet the needs of students with special needs (mental retarded, down syndrome, and autism) who adjust the 2013 curriculum in the use of technology in the teaching and learning process.The results of the needs analysis based on R&D show that multimedia-based I-Mol Indonesian language teaching model is expected to be an integrated and relevant teaching model with the 2013 curriculum so it can support the speaking skills of children with special needs (mentally retarded, down syndrome, and autism). Thus, it can be understood that the Indonesian language teaching model based on multimedia I-Mol for speaking skills is needed.
