Abstract

Films are often used to communicate phenomena that occur in society. The representation of Chinese Indonesians in films portrays the political, social and cultural values of Indonesians. Problems that ensue Chinese Indonesians were reconstructed through films, thus enabling public consumptions. Three films will be the objects of the research: "Love and Faith", "A Man Called Ahok" and "Susi Susanti: Love All". This research was conducted in order to find out what are political, social and cultural phenomena being conveyed through these films, as well as how the matter is visually delivered. The methods used in this research is interpretative qualitative descriptive; in which the films were analyzed with a historical approach. An in-depth observation was applied for these three researched films as a form of data gathering technique. Through in-depth observation towards the existing political, social and cultural phenomena, it is revealed that Chinese Indonesian as an ethnic minority still received discriminative treatment despite their huge devotion to the country. It is hoped that the product of this research could build up Indonesia to be a strong country capable of taking on future obstacles in accordance with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) enforced by the Indonesian government.
