Abstract

This paper motivates the benefits of the analysis of the communication structure for process improvement. Therefore first, the paper presents a three-stage model for determining the decentralization of production processes. This is based on the analysis of the communication and decision structure of the process’ actors. In addition, it presents a way of visualizing communication relationships. To conclude, this paper presents a practical example and the results of a simulation study. It depicts the advantages of analyzing the communication structure.
