Abstract
This paper describes the application of the blockchain technology in the last-mile delivery. The attention is focused on the Vehicle Routing Problem with Occasional Drivers and Time Windows constraints. The main aim is to develop a strategy, which uses the blockchain as a support to achieve a partially decentralized delivery system. An analysis of the advantages obtained by using such a technology, in terms of economic sustainability, is carried out on small-size test instances. The proposed system is implemented and tested by using three different EVM-compatible blockchains. The collected experimental results have shown that the implemented Polygon and VeChain blockchain systems allow to achieve good performance in terms of sustainability and seems to have good prospects in terms of scalability.
