Abstract

In the era of 21st-century globalization, electronic technology, particularly multimedia, pervades every aspect of our lives. Parents' demanding jobs often result in less time spent with their children, who, in turn, increasingly occupy themselves with smartphones and TVs. Children are drawn to the vivid animations and games offered by multimedia devices. However, excessive screen time is associated with delayed physical, speech, and psychological development in children. These impacts can be categorised into cognitive, physical, emotional, ecological, and genetic domains, each exerting both positive and negative influences on speech development across various age phases, including early childhood, toddlers, and preschool age. This article examines the effects of multimedia usage on the formation of children's speech and discusses its consequences, particularly in relation to vocabulary, speech fluency, and communicative expressiveness.
