Abstract: The role of the library as a learning resource, information centre and innovation. This study aims to determine
the importance of the role of the library as a learning resource, information centre and innovation. This type
of qualitative descriptive research. Sources of data in this study are librarians and library visitors. Data
collection techniques were carried out through (1) interviews, (2) observations, (3) documentation. Based on
the results of the study showed that: (1) the role of the library as a learning resource was good (2) the role of
the library as an information centre was good (3) the role of the library as a source of innovation was good.
Libraries that are well organized and systematically directly or indirectly can provide an important role.
1 INTRODUCTION
Libraries play an important role in Indonesia, one of
which is as a knowledge bridge for the public to
obtain information (Sunyowati et al., 2022). The
library today is no longer a place for stacks of books
arranged and ready to read, libraries today are also
required to be able to innovate so that library visitors
feel at home in the library and come back to visit. So
far many have not understood the importance of
destruction (Suhariono et al., 2022). During
widespread socialization about the importance of
libraries and the development of libraries that are now
present in every educational institution.
Many various learning resources can be used as
learning resources, one of which is a library, as a
process of a system that is inseparable from various
other components that interact with it. One
component is a learning resource. The source of
learning is as a place or environment, objects and
people containing information that can be used as a
vehicle (Subagyono, Chumaida and Romadhona,
2022).
One of the learning resources that is often used in
the learning process is libraries and books. Sudono
(2006) says the function of other learning resources is
to improve children's development in language
through communicating with them about matters
related to learning resources or other things. Libraries
as the current development has been used as one of
the centers of information, learning resources,
innovation, research, recreation, cultural treasures,
sources of knowledge and providing various other
services. Libraries everywhere can play a role in
increasing reading interest. It is hoped that Indonesian
people will be more intelligent and skilled in
anticipating the challenges of the times (Romadhona,
2022).
According to the exposure put forward by the
Association for Education and Communication
Technology (AECT), learning resources are
everything that facilitates the learning process,
including service systems, learning materials, and the
environment (Romadhona, Subagyono and Agustin,
2022). Learning resources are all things in the form
of data, both separately and in full, so as to facilitate
the learning process that will achieve the learning
objectives to be achieved.
According to Yusup (1995) the source of
information is the container of the content, and the
center of information sources is the place where
information sources or containers are collected. If the
contents of a book are the information, then it is called
the source of information is the book itself which
serves as a storage or information store, while the
center of information sources can mean a place where
books or other sources are collected. According to
Hasugian (2009) Information centers are a center that
is tasked with providing information processed from
other sources regarding a particular field or specific
field of science (Romadhona, 2020). Examples of

agricultural information centers, tourism information
centers and so on.
Information is data that has been processed into
a form that has been presented as an important study
useful for the data seeker. This information must be
actual and factual so that all information obtained is
used properly and correctly in decision making
(Harisanty and Anugrah, 2022).
Innovation is an idea, research and development
activity that has specificities that are carried out with
the aim of developing new applications of various
sciences, as well as new ways to apply various
existing knowledge and various technologies into
products that will be renewed or replaced.
According to Wicaksono (2006), one of the
components in the application of knowledge
management is the availability of tools as a means of
sharing knowledge. This is as the industry does in
implementing knowledge management. For this form
of realization of knowledge management in the
library by building several facilities or sharing
knowledge.
Laudon and Laudon (2004) knowledge
management functions to improve the ability of an
organization to learn from its environment and
combine knowledge in an organization to create,
collect, maintain, and disseminate knowledge of the
organization. Information technology plays an
important role in knowledge management as an
enabling business process that aims to create, store,
maintain and disseminate knowledge.
2 RESEARCH METHOD
We in this study used a descriptive approach.
Descriptive means that it can be in the form of a
problem that is categorized or in other forms such as
documents, photos, and notes when research. The
subjects of this study were librarians and library
visitors.
Whereas for data collection techniques and get
our users' perceptions through interviews,
observation, and documentation. We observe and
collect information about libraries as well as
suggestions and criticisms for constructive libraries.
The results of this study will be written in the form of
qualitative reports that can address obstacles.
Respondents from this study were librarians and
library visitors by asking a few questions from
drawing conclusions.
3 RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The library is a place where records are accessed.
Public libraries as an embodiment in terms of the
development of public interest in reading, in terms of
learning centers and information centers for
innovation to educate the lives of the nation.
According to law NO.42 of 2007 article 1
paragraph 6 which reads "public library is a library
that is intended for the wider community as a means
of lifelong learning without distinguishing age, sex,
ethnicity, race, religion, and economic status.
The public library is an educational institution for
the public by providing various information,
knowledge, technology and culture as a learning
resource to acquire and improve knowledge for all
levels of society ". Based on the explanation above,
public libraries have an important role for the most
important community in terms of learning resources,
information centers and innovation. Each library can
maintain its existence if it can carry out its role. In
general, the roles that can be performed are:
1. As a learning resource center
The library is an effort to maintain and improve
the efficiency and effectiveness of the teaching
and learning process. Libraries that are organized
well and systematically directly or indirectly can
provide convenience for the teaching and
learning process. This is related to the progress
of the education sector and with the improvement
of teaching and learning methods that are felt
cannot be separated from the problem of
providing educational facilities and facilities.
When we observed in the public library of
Surabaya, which was in the Rungkut Asri, we
found that the learning process went well.
Starting from elementary school to high school.
The library that we observed also often held
activities such as traveling and introducing all
parts in the library.
The usual activities are book subject recognition
activities and introduction to classification
numbers in the library. Although not in-depth
providing information to the children who
participated in this activity, it is expected that
visitors will understand that the children do not
even know the book classification number in the
library. Also expected children’s visitors to
subjects in the library even if only knowing.
2. As an Information Center
The library is one place that has an important role
in providing information. This is because a

library must have a book collection not only one
can be hundreds or even tens of thousands. In it
there are various types of books. Not only library
books are now also equipped with a collection of
magazines, newspapers, or articles that can be
used as other sources of information.
Some of the Surabaya city library visitors who
are in Rungkut Asri make the library as a
gathering place and a place to find the latest
information in newspapers published every day.
Almost every day there are visitors who come to
the library to read kora daily.
3. As an innovation
The library as a place for storing various
information that used to be just a place for storing
books is now also a place for creative ideas to
grow. For example, if someone reads a book
about cultivation of Angora cats. If the person is
a creative and resilient person, then from reading
the book, the idea might be to cultivate a feline
cat and could open jobs that are certainly useful
for others.
Another innovation from the Surabaya city library
is to build TBM (Taman Baca Masyarakat) which is
spread throughout the Surabaya city environment.
Every TBM is managed by one officer who is
responsible for all TBM activities. Usually the TBM
is in every RW, the collection of which comes from
the procurement of library and archival services in the
city of Surabaya
4 CONCLUSIONS
The library is one of the information centers or places
to gather, store and maintain library collections both
books and other readings, which are used for
information sources as well as a fun learning tool. The
library has the benefit of maintaining and improving
the efficiency and effectiveness of the teaching-
learning process. Libraries that are well organized
and systematically directly or indirectly can facilitate
the learning process. Having a library role include as
a center of innovation and as a center for learning
resources. It is expected that the library has complete
reading of sources and references and is
systematically organized and facilitates users. It is
expected that library users will be able to increase the
use of libraries as a source of knowledge, sources of
information and learning resources. The library is
utilized effectively and efficiently as possible so that
the awareness of reading interest will grow and
further improve intelligence.
