Abstract

In this paper, we proposed a method to secure an electronic health record stored on a portable data storage media (CDs/DVDs, diskettes, flash drives). We applied cryptography to realize the authenticity and integrity of the portable health record. A manifest signature mechanism was used to reduce the computation time of the signing and verifying processes. A DICOM DIR consists of 166 DICOM MR images was tested as an example of a portable medical record. The performance of this method is faster than the regular digital signature mechanism.
