Abstract
Sensitive data in electronic health records needs marking for special handling in order to maintain privacy. Person-centred records need mechanisms for individual and flexible marking. Policy mechanisms currently applied with shared health records in integrated care environments lack the ability to model complex privacy requirements. The paper examines two state-of-the-art policy languages for distributed processing environments such as web-services and digital rights management and describes how they can be applied with XML health records. Furthermore, it highlights the abstract concepts that need to be adopted and presents a distributed policy enforcement model.
