Models in Business - Experiences from the Field

Abstract
This paper reflects on the developments over the past decades in business modeling and software design in the context of a very specific niche market. It represents my personal views and supported by theories of the firm and semiotic theories. In the end, the paper argues against a reductionist approach to developing information systems for companies, and pleads for a dissociation between formalised views and formalised modeling on one side, and business views and business modeling on the other side.
