Abstract
Having an adequate financial literacy is a necessary tool for employees, especially in welcoming retirement, and an absent of it can lead to economic hardship for an individual and potentially for the other family members. Public servants in the government institutions are often considered as the vulnerable group that do not possess proper financial knowledge due to little access to personal financial training at their workplaces, as well as limited time to cultivate entrepreneurial skills. This paper aimed to better understand the level of financial literacy and its relation to financial decision making during the workers’ prime earning years when they are making key financial decisions. 380 questionnaires were distributed to government employees in Bandung, with 85% return rate. The result reveals that better financial literacy leads to better financial decision at 1% significance level. This study also indicated that, although demographic profiles such as gender, age, marital status, education and career level have positive correlation with the level of financial literacy, they do not have mediating effect to the financial literacy and financial decision making of the bureaucrats.
